Your Dire Need to Clean Up FaceBook Friends List and Why

Your Dire NeedFor some people FaceBook has become their life source for socializing, meeting people and staying connected. Something is wrong with that. Whenever I see someone post “Goodnight FaceBook Family,” that creeps me out. How about saying goodnight to your REAL family or the person you are sleeping with? Is FaceBook the beginning and the end of all communication these days? Why not take the computer to bed?I have been working diligently over the past few months to build my music and radio industry site, TheIndustry.biz . That means addition and major subtraction. I use FaceBook to market my brand with a little quote here and there and a comment on someone else’s post I may find interesting. Yet, this past week, I had a strong urge to finally clean up my FaceBook friends list. There was just a myriad of pure BS on my timeline that was not worth reading. I realized many of the people on my list were people I randomly added because they asked to be added. The people I REALLY need to be on the list who are in my field, business contacts those who have something to say were few. I didn’t know the people on my current list.  I just thought it would be great to have 5000 people on my friends list. Perhaps that was my own insecurity kicking in but now it’s time to kick it back out. I’ve been eliminating the people I have never met, hangers-on, negative people, arrogant, self righteous and elitist religious people, those who never have much to say but are only there to eat and those who are in dire need of validation. That was a MAJORITY of my list. It actually felt great to clean that out and now I am NOT bombarded with new profile pictures every 5 minutes where people are BEGGING for validation with the comments like: “Stunning” “Girl, you still look good,” “Do you ever age?” Why don’t people tell the truth and say things like “You bloated magnanimous BULL SEAL, when are you gonna stop EATING?”I find it very hard to smile and feel motivated when I see pictures of people on my FaceBook page in a hospital bed with a loaded enema bag attached to them. Needless to say this usually happens when I’m skimming through the posts while enjoying a bowl of Vegetarian Chili for lunch. Do I really need to see that?  What a waste of space. The people who remain on my page are people like Film Director Reginald Hudlin who ALWAYS posts something great, Skip Dillard (WBLS and WLIB) who is one of the FEW Black radio Program Directors on my FB Friends list who shows he is a regular person too, he shovels snow, supports his family at outings, goes to games and does more than run the only Black radio station in New York. I don’t need to see pictures of someone sitting on the toilet to know they are human but how about a review of a nice restaurant in your area every now and then, you know something that you had to leave your computer to do?Now I have to work on Linkedin and the mailing list for TheIndustry.biz . Doing a radio and music industry site means my goal is to eliminate everyone and everything that does not bring something to the table after I do. I’m burnt out on being the go-to guy and I have hired an assistant to buffer some of the many requests that I get to help others who in my heart-of-hearts I feel would not be there for me if I needed them. You will DIE trying to help other people all the time. I’m not speaking of anyone specific, I’m talking about EVERYBODY who is not a personal friend of mines. I will help when I WANT to help otherwise, I’ll feed people at the mission. Anything to get away from Facebook!
