Legendary radio programmer Elroy Smith will host the inaugural “Boston Radio Reunion & Awards” on Friday, July 26th, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building (2300 Washington St, Boston, MA).
“This celebration will be an evening of reconnecting and networking with current and former radio industry people,” says Smith. “Boston has such a rich history of excellence in broadcasting that deserves to be preserved and celebrated.”
Prestigious Awards to Honor Industry Leaders:
The event will feature the presentation of prestigious awards to the following honorees:
- 1090 W.I.L.D Radio Award:Â Kandi Eastman, a 29-year mid-day host at KMJQ (Magic 102.1) Houston, who began her career at WILD.
- The Sunny Joe White Award:Â JoJo “Cookin'” Kincaid, a dynamic former on-air personality at WXKS (Kiss 108) Boston.
- The Emerson College Media Achievement Award:Â Stephen Hill, former 1090 WILD programmer/on-air personality and former President of Music Programming & Specials at BET.
- The Legacy Entertainment Award:Â Boston music icon Ralph Tresvant, of New Edition fame, and a nationally syndicated radio personality.
Boston to Celebrate 1090 W.I.L.D.’s Legacy:
In recognition of the decades-long impact that 1090 W.I.L.D. made on the Boston community, and the dedication of its staff, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu will proclaim Friday, July 26, 2024, as “1090 W.I.L.D. Day” in Boston.
Elroy Smith: A Boston Radio Powerhouse:
Elroy Smith brings deep roots to Boston. A graduate of Emerson College and Cambridge College, he is inducted into the Emerson College WERS Hall of Fame. From 1983-1988, he programmed 1090 WILD AM, transforming a limited signal into a ratings powerhouse with a 2.9 share (12+), surpassing several Boston FM stations. Notably, he was the first programmer to play New Edition’s “Candy Girl” in 1984.

The Boston Radio Reunion & Awards is an initiative founded by Elroy Smith to celebrate Boston’s rich radio history and reconnect industry professionals. Following the success of last year’s Chicago Radio Reunion, Smith plans to expand the event to other major cities.
