Jeff Toig Named CEO of GMR; Randy Grimmett Chairman

Global Music Rights (GMR), the performing rights organization valued at $3.3 billion and founded by Irving Azoff and Randy Grimmett in 2013, has announced a leadership transition. Jeff Toig, who previously served as Chief Business Officer, has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer, taking over from co-founder Randy Grimmett, who will now serve as Executive Chairman.

This change comes shortly after GMR’s deal with private equity firm Hellman & Friedman, which solidified the company’s valuation. GMR boasts an impressive roster of renowned songwriters and composers, including Harry Styles, who recently announced his upcoming album, ‘Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally,’ set for release on March 6 via Columbia. Other notable artists represented by GMR include Drake, Pearl Jam, Billie Eilish, the Eagles, and the estates of John Lennon, Prince, and George Harrison.

In a press release, GMR emphasized that these leadership promotions reflect their commitment to continuity, stability, and a long-term vision in the music rights space. Grimmett will remain actively involved in shaping GMR’s strategic direction, while Toig will oversee the company’s daily operations.

Irving Azoff commented on the transition, stating, ‘Randy and Jeff have been working side by side for a long time, building GMR into what it is today.’ He expressed confidence that this evolution would allow GMR to maintain its industry standards for excellence and transparency for songwriters and performers alike.

Grimmett echoed these sentiments, highlighting their shared values and dedication to songwriters. He noted that his new role will enable him to collaborate closely with Toig on future strategies while continuing to engage with GMR’s talented roster.

Toig expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead GMR, emphasizing the company’s client-focused approach that has been its hallmark since inception. He looks forward to working with clients and partners to uphold GMR’s reputation for excellence.

In related news, GMR and SESAC made headlines last September by joining ASCAP and BMI’s ‘Songview’ copyright database, further expanding the platform’s reach to over 38 million works.
