16 Killed After Bus Falls into Deep Gorge in Northern India


    16 people were killed after a bus fell into a deep gorge in northern India. On Monday, in northern India, a passenger bus fell off a mountain road and plunged into a deep gorge. Over a dozen people were killed, including school children, said a government official.

    Ashutosh Garg, a senior administrator for the district of Kullu in Himachal Pradesh state, told the news agency Press Trust of India that the badly injured were pulled out of the rubble by rescue workers and sent to a local hospital.

    Approximately 20 passengers were traveling on the bus at the time, said Prashant Sirkek Singh, another official.

    Rescuers tried to pull survivors from the mangled bus, show social media photos. The cause of the crash was yet to be determined.

    Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over the incident.

    As a result of reckless driving, inadequately maintained roads, and aging vehicles, fatal road accidents are frequent in India.
