Cobb County, Georgia—Corissa Laws, a woman accused of working as a nurse in multiple states without a valid license, will remain in custody at the Cobb County Jail. During a court session on Tuesday, Channel 2 Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele Newell reported that a judge denied bail for Laws. The charges against Laws involve the theft of a Florida nurse’s identity, which allegedly used to obtain a nursing license and provide care for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Furthermore, Laws has an outstanding arrest warrant in Vermont and pending charges in Orlando, Florida. Channel 2 Action News previously reported on Laws’ arrest last month. Despite the defense attorney’s argument that Laws should be granted bond due to facing only one felony charge, the judge ruled against it.

“She’s charged with one felony. Practicing without a license in Georgia is a misdemeanor, which must have a bond. The one felony, aggravated identity, alleges committed this one time,” the attorney told the judge.

She was employed as a licensed nurse with Walton Community Services where was tasked with working with eight people in a Cobb County home who needed care around the clock from a licensed nurse.

“I can’t think of anything more dangerous than someone masquerading as a nurse from state to state to state,” the prosecutor argued.

According to the prosecutor, Laws confessed to working as a nurse in multiple states, including Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Florida, and New Mexico, in addition to her employment in Georgia. On the other hand, Laws’ attorney argues that the primary attention should be directed towards Laws’ employer.

“There is an investigation into Walton Community Services for them committing fraud and sending nurses out to practice nursing without a license,” he said.

The nurse whom Laws allegedly impersonated declined to provide a public statement but expressed relief that Laws is now in custody. Source.
