A Desperate Bid for Jay-Z Tickets

According to court documents, the male victim had tickets for a Jay Z concert at the Toyota Center in Houston that he was unable to attend. He decided to sell his eight tickets on Craigslist, and on December 15, 2013, he was contacted by a potential buyer. They agreed to meet at a Starbucks on Durham.

The Encounter

The man met the two suspects, later identified as Denitra Sherrelle Green and Cessica Desha Darden, who asked him to come outside the coffee shop as they had a baby in their vehicle. The victim, accompanied by his girlfriend, approached the vehicle and leaned into the window to show them the tickets. That’s when Green floored the gas pedal.

The Aftermath

Investigators report that the man was dragged along as the vehicle sped out of the parking lot and onto Durham. He pleaded with Green to stop the car, but she refused and Darden violently tried to remove him from the car. The man eventually fell off and was run over by the vehicle, suffering severe injuries that required extensive medical treatment.

Several witnesses saw the car speeding down Durham with the man hanging on, and one was able to note down the license plate number. The man and his girlfriend were able to identify Green and Darden from a photo array, and, ironically, they were found at the Jay Z concert, sitting in seats from the stolen tickets.

Green and Darden, both 20 at the time, were charged with aggravated robbery. Their bond was set at $30,000 each.
