An Epic Event that Shaped Our Dialogue

As we look on the impactful events that have shaped our society, one in particular stands out: on Thursday, July 14, 2016, Emmis New York’s radio stations WQHT-FM HOT 97, WBLS-FM 107.5 & WLIB- 1190 joined forces to broadcast a special program titled “One Voice”. This program, which brought together voices from all walks of life, sought to address the tense relationship between the African -on-bet” target=”_blank”> community and the police. It was a defining moment in our collective consciousness, sparking dialogue that continues to evolve even as we move into 2025.

Emmis Radio New

A Revolutionary Broadcast

Simulcast three stations and online, “One Voice” served as a platform for discussion on the recent events that had divided the nation and brought racism & police brutality into the spotlight. The aim was to provide perspective, allow the expression of intense emotions, and identify potential actions to effect positive change.

The Power of Dialogue

The program featured special guests, including HOT 97’s Ebro & Peter Rosenberg from Ebro in the Morning, HOT 97 & FOX 5 reporter Lisa Evers, WBLS’ Bob Slade from Open Line, and WBLS & WLIB’s Bishop Hezekiah Walker & Ann Tripp. These individuals led a panel discussion focusing on the productive actions the community, police, and government could take to promote peace, eliminate hate, and prevent the unnecessary loss of lives.

A Call to Action

“We’re hurting,” stated Ebro Darden, “The listeners are hurting, the police are hurting. We must break this cycle of violence and begin the process of real change through open dialogue.” Bishop Hezekiah Walker echoed these sentiments, urging the community to stand up and unite in the face of adversity.

The Legacy of “One Voice”

“One Voice” served as a catalyst for discussion and a beacon for change. It underscored the importance of open dialogue and the power of unity in effecting real change. As we reflect on the program’s impact, its message remains as relevant today as it was back in 2016.
