Big Moves in BMI: Alison Smith and Mike Steinberg Promoted
As we delve further into 2025, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) continues to evolve and adapt to the ever-changing music industry. Recently, BMI’s President and CEO, Mike O’Neill, strategic promotions within the company’s team. Alison Smith, formerly the SVP of Operations, Distribution, and Administration has been elevated to EVP, Distribution, Public Relations & Administration Services; and Mike Steinberg, former SVP of Licensing, now holds the title of EVP, Creative & Licensing. These shifts come on the heels of Phil Graham’s retirement, and the restructuring of BMI’s Writer/Publisher department.
In their new roles, Smith and Steinberg will be instrumental in the and financial relationships with BMI’s publishers. Smith will focus on royalty distributions and administration needs, developing new data streams, bonus structures and payment methodologies. Her responsibilities will span all music delivery platforms, both domestic and international.
Steinberg’s New Role and The Creative
Steinberg, on the other hand, will lead the newly-named Creative group, which includes BMI’s songwriter and composer teams in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, Puerto Rico and London, as well as the company’s Strategic Partnership division. He also plans to hire a Senior Vice President of Creative, a new position that will help build on their successful work developing and guiding the careers of BMI’s unmatched roster of established and developing talent.
Smith and Steinberg: A Look at their Tenure
Smith, a 31-year BMI veteran, has been instrumental in overseeing record royalty distributions to BMI’s affiliates and spearheading the development and creation of multiple online tools. Steinberg, on the other hand, has been with the company since 1996 and has led the company to record revenue growth in each year of his tenure.
As we look to the future, the leadership of Smith and Steinberg promises to bring innovative changes to BMI, further solidifying its place within the music industry.
