Exciting Developments in the Music Industry: Guitar Center’s New Store in Times Square Celebrates its 10th Anniversary
Fast forward a decade from its grand opening, Guitar Center’s Times Square location has established itself as a significant milestone in the music industry. Not only does this year mark the 10th anniversary of the iconic Times Square location, but it also represents another significant milestone for Guitar Center as the retailer celebrates its 60th year in the industry. This post takes us on a nostalgic journey to the grand opening of the Times Square location, a store that has since then continued to foster musical creativity and inspire generations of musicians.
Housed in the original New York Times building, the Guitar Center Times Square store, now standing as one of the 262 stores nationwide, has been updated with a modern, stylish look by the -on-bet” target=”_blank”>-winning design firm Eight Inc. (Apple, Nike). This store has continued to encourage customers to interact with the wide selection of instruments and engage with a dedicated staff of unparalleled experts.
Grand Opening Celebrations
To commemorate such a momentous occasion, Guitar Center hosted a Grand Opening Weekend, which kicked off with a performance by hip-hop icons and current Tonight Show house band The Roots, at the Buy Theater, right the street from the new store. Tickets were given away at New York-based Guitar Center locations in the days leading up to the event.
A Closer Look at the Store
Guitar Center Times Square features a number of programs. These include an in-house lesson facility, Guitar Center Studios, free Recording Made Easy classes, an in-house rental department, a hands-on electronic music department, onsite guitar repair service GC Garage, and unique features such as a Fender custom shop and a stunning 360-degree boutique pedal display.
Continuing the Legacy
“Joining the caliber of retailers that have established a presence in Times Square over the years is a huge accomplishment and a statement as to how far the brand has come,” says Mike Pratt, Guitar Center CEO. The store has continued to inspire people to make music and support a culture that fosters creativity and musicianship.
Throughout the weekend, the Times Square store featured exclusive savings, gear giveaways, and free events. One of the highlights was Eric Clapton’s “Blackie” Fender Stratocaster, purchased by Guitar Center at a Christie’s Auction to raise funds for Crossroads Centre Antigua, on display all weekend.
