Expansion and New Additions

Back in 2013, the festival expanded its reach and programming by adding a fourth day to the traditionally held three-day event. The first-ever “Family Reunion Day” was free and open to the public.

More than just a music festival, Essence has always been a platform for social change. In 2013, a special prayer vigil titled ‘Love, Loss and Life’ was held to unite mothers and families in an effort to end violence and murder America.
