As we journey into 2025, it’s important to not only reflect on the past but also embrace the legacy of those who have made a significant impact in our lives. One such person is the late Stuart Scott, a renowned ESPN reporter who bravely battled cancer, not once but twice, while maintaining an inspirational fitness regimen. Despite the re-emergence of his illness, Scott remained a beacon of positivity and resilience, inspiring many with his “refuse to lose” attitude. His dedication to health and fitness, particularly through the use of Beachbody’s exercise programs and nutritional products, led him to receive the inaugural Beachbody Challenge Inspiration in the past.

Stuart Scott: A Legacy of Inspiration
The 21-year veteran of ESPN, best known for his work on the popular nightly sports news program SportsCenter and coverage of the NFL and NBA, successfully overcame battles with cancer on two separate occasions in 2007 and 2011. As of a few years ago, the cancer re-emerged and Scott faced this challenge with his trademark “refuse to lose” attitude and a healthy mix of relentless exercise, discipline and determination, positive thinking and the love and inspiration of his family and friends.
Exercise: A Key to Success
“I was genuinely surprised and honored at being the first recipient of the Beachbody Challenge Inspiration . It wasn’t a goal of mine, it’s really just a lifestyle,” said Scott. “We all want to be as healthy as we can be and if you get a chance to be healthy and share that with others, why not? When I discovered P90X I realized, I can get in a good workout right chemo and feel like I’m doing all I can. I get inspired by others to do it. I hope I can inspire others to do it.”
Scott had been outspoken about exercise as a key to his success, utilizing what he referred to as his “post-chemo workout” regimen where he combined MMA training with P90X. More importantly, Scott used his own circumstances as a platform to motivate and inspire others facing similar challenges, consistently leveraging his notoriety and his own social networks to encourage others to keep pushing forward in their own battles.
Awarding Inspiration
In honoring Scott, Beachbody donated $10,000 in Scott’s name to the V Foundation, the national cancer charity created in honor of the late North Carolina State head basketball coach Jim Valvano. The keys to success for Scott parallel those of so many individuals facing a variety of life-threatening and seemingly insurmountable challenges, including the threat of obesity at the heart of the annual Beachbody Challenge program.
“We were inspired by Stuart’s story and his commitment to health and fitness, and we hope his story can inspire millions of others to tackle their own daunting challenges in the same manner,” said Carl Daikeler, CEO, Beachbody, LLC. “The Beachbody Challenge is all about overcoming challenges and making seemingly impossible transformations possible. There’s no one who represents this better than Stuart Scott and we couldn’t be prouder to honor him with this inaugural Beachbody Challenge Inspiration Award.”
