Let’s rewind and drop the needle into the groove of vinyl, the medium that refuses to fade into obscurity.

Technics' next-generation reference turntableIn the recent ces event, Technics showcased their latest breakthrough in turntable technology. These models, the Technics 50th anniversary limited edition Grand Class SL-1200GAE and the non-limited Grand Class SL-1200G, have been meticulously crafted for those who appreciate the warm sound quality of analogue vinyl discs.

The Vinyl Revival

Despite the prevalence of formats like CDs and streaming services, vinyl records have a comeback, encouraging Technics to develop a new system for HiFi use.

Overcoming Analogue Issues of the Past

Direct drive turntable systems have been cherished by HiFi enthusiasts since 1972. Yet, they’ve always grappled with ‘cogging’—tiny vibrations of the motor and rotational speed fluctuations that degrade sound quality. Technics has effectively eliminated this issue with a newly developed coreless direct-drive motor without iron core, aided by high-precision rotary positioning sensors guided by a microprocessor-controlled system.

Broadcast Proven Quality Three-layered Turntable

The turntable has a three-layered construction that combines heavyweight brass and aluminum die cast platter, and deadening rubber, covering its entire rear surface. This structure minimizes unnecessary resonance, achieving high rigidity and vibration damping.

High Dampening Tonearm

The tonearm uses a lightweight material (aluminum for the SL-1200G and magnesium for the SL-1200GAE) which has been cold drawn to enhance its properties and increase the dampening effect.

Four-layered Cabinet Construction

The four-layered construction of the turntable cabinet combines high rigidity with a premium finish and feel, thanks to the 10-mm-thick top panel of immaculate aluminum.

Upcoming Release

The Technics 50th anniversary limited edition Grand Class SL-1200GAE will be later this year, boasting a limited serial number plate and a restricted global quantity of 1,200 pieces. The Grand Class SL-1200G will follow suit.
