A grand jury decided not to indict five Minneapolis police officers in the death of a former radio DJ who died after officers used a Taser to subdue him. Quincy Deshawn Smith, 24, of Minneapolis, died after a confrontation with police on Dec. 9, 2008. Police were responding to a report of a domestic assault on the 1000 block of Knox Avenue N. They said Smith fought with them when they tried to arrested him in the street. They used a Taser. Afterward, police noticed Smith was having a medical problem. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center where he died. The jury returned a “no bill” against Timothy Devick, Shawn Brandt, Nicholas McCarthy, Christopher Hamphrey, and Carlos Baires Escobar. Smith once worked as a DJ at radio station KMOJ. He also worked as a teacher’s assistant at Harvest Prep in Minneapolis.
