Hubbard Radio’s the Mix Delivers 100K Diapers to Chicago via Huggies Partnership

Hubbard Radio’s urban outlet 101.9 The Mix (WTMX) in Chicago has demonstrated the tangible community mobilization power of local radio by securing 100,000 diapers for families in need through a corporate partnership with Huggies. This initiative directly addresses a critical socioeconomic gap in the Chicagoland area, where nearly half of families raising young children cannot afford sufficient diaper supplies, a barrier that often prevents parents from working or children from attending daycare.

Radio Personalities Mobilize Community Action

The monthlong donation drive launched in June, led by The Morning Mix hosts Chris Petlak, Nikki Chuminatto, and Whip. The team invited listeners to physically drop off donations at the Walmart Supercenter in Glen Ellyn, leveraging the trusted relationship between radio personalities and their audience to drive participation. Huggies committed to matching every diaper donated by listeners, a corporate incentive that doubled the impact of individual contributions and accelerated the collection rate. The campaign culminated in the delivery of 100,000 diapers to Share Our Spare, a Chicago-based nonprofit dedicated to providing essential items to children ages 0 to 5.

Addressing the Diaper Gap in Urban Markets

The urgency of this drive stems from data indicating that one in two Chicago-area families with young children struggle to afford enough diapers to keep babies clean and healthy. Share Our Spare Executive Director S. Mayumi Grigsby highlighted the economic ripple effect of this shortage, noting that the inability to secure diapers can force a parent to miss work or a child to miss daycare. Grigsby emphasized that the partnership proves the community can eliminate the choice between buying diapers and buying meals when organizations collaborate effectively.

WTMX and WTBC VP of Brand and Content Chris Eagan stated that local radio remains one of the most effective platforms for mobilizing communities and driving meaningful action. Eagan credited the unique connection radio personalities maintain with their audiences and the trust listeners place in Hubbard’s brands for the campaign’s success. He expressed gratitude to Huggies, the Morning Mix team, and the listeners who demonstrated radio’s ability to inspire generosity and deliver tangible support to families throughout the Chicago area. This event marks the second annual iteration of the drive, following the inaugural event held on June 7, 2025.
