“Put some respect on my (blank) name!” this is what my pick for the MVP of the bubble, Damian Lillard, told the league. Lillard has been a monster during the restart. Scoring at will putting up 61 points in a win against the Dallas Mavericks and scoring 42 points in a win to clinch the 8th seed against the New Jersey Nets.
Before teams arrived in the bubble Lillard let the basketball world know that he wasn’t coming to the bubble to waste his time. They have more work to do, will be tested right away and have to do it with one of their starts CJ McCollum playing with a fracture in his back. Lillard is a superstar who will put his team on his back to achieve their ultimate goal.
Lillard has scored at least 50 points 11 times and 6 times this season. The 61 points he scored against the Mavs tied his career high and is the third 60-point game of the season. He has been a beast and living up to his nicknames: Logo Lillard, Dame D.O.L.L.A and D.O.L.L.A (Different on Levels Lord Allowed).
The Blazers will meet the Grizzlies in the play-in game and if they beat them, they will face the Lakers. Can they beat the Lakers? Cleveland Cavaliers’ Kevin Love thinks it can be done. This year the Blazers have more willing and capable scorers, but they will need a consistent second scorer. Lillard is playing out of his mind, so there is no concern. Will that other scorer be Carmelo Anthony, or will CJ be able to continue to grind it out with his injury or will Gary Trent continue is hot shooting? These are all questions that if the answer is yes, they have a great chance to beat the number one seed; but these are also questions with no sure answer. NBA playoffs will be fun to watch.
