More about the cast of The Tom Joyner Morning Show
Tom Joyner is one of the most influential, inspirational, and dynamic media personalities in the country today. A native of Tuskegee, Alabama, Joyner is so much more than a radio personality: He’s an entrepreneur, an entertainer and a philanthropist. He is founder of REACH Media Inc., the Tom Joyner Foundation, BlackAmericaWeb.com, and host of the leading nationally syndicated morning radio show, Tom Joyner Morning Show. Joyner, known as “˜The Hardest Working Man in Radio’, has distinguished himself as one of the most recognized and revered media personalities in the country. He has won virtually every top radio award including the prestigious “Marconi Award” and the nation’s leading network/syndicated personality in the country and is also a 1999 Radio Hall of Fame inductee. The International Radio and Television Society (IRTS) chose him for one of their highest honors, acknowledging his work with black colleges, and Broadcasting & Cable Magazine inducted him into its Hall of Fame. Joyner has become a motivating and organizing force for the country. Throughout the year, his top-rated syndicated radio morning show features a who’s who in celebrities, political figures, newsmakers and comedians.
J. Anthony Brown For those in the know, “Watch Out Deh Now” is more than a heed to action, it’s the trademark catcall for funnyman J. Anthony Brown. As a forerunner to today’s hot Black comedy scene, and one of the foremost kings of that comedy, J. Anthony Brown is finally receiving the accolades he so justly deserves. A staple on the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show for over. J. Anthony Brown is a titanic comedic force! His sidesplitting antics and sensibilities have set a precedent that many now follow. Whether he is murdering the hits with his off key version of the latest song, or donning a pink pimp suit to evoke a laugh, Brown will get to your funny bone. His penchant for alligator shoes and rainbow colored suits convey his “party time” approach for fun. BET recognized the power of his comedic drive and therefore had him host two consecutive seasons of their top rated network show, “Comic View.” As testimony to the comedian’s draw power, his season had some of the comedy world’s biggest names grace the stage. With a daily routine that begins at 2:00 a.m. and continues non-stop, J. Anthony Brown is one of the industry’s hardest working comedians. He has helped to pave the way for today’s hottest talent and continues as a trailblazer with his comedic contributions.
Sybil Wilkes is the co-host of the Tom Joyner Morning Show, a nationally syndicated radio program heard in over 100 markets with an audience of more than eight million. An original member of the show, initially joining the crew as a news anchor, each morning Wilkes provides “the voice of reason” alongside host Tom Joyner and co-host J. Anthony Brown. This native Chicagoan began her radio career in 1985 as a production assistant with WKQX-FM, Chicago. In 1990 she became a reporter for Chicago’s Shadow Traffic Network. While with Shadow, Wilkes delivered morning and afternoon drive traffic updates and worked as one of Tom Joyner’s WGCI-FM sidekicks. A noted news and political journalist, Wilkes has landed major interviews with some of today’s top newsmakers including joining President Barack Obama and Senator John Edwards on the campaign trail for exclusive one-on-one interviews as well as a candid interview with Former President Bill Clinton. Being a celebrated radio personality and journalist she has received a number of accolades including The President’s Award from the NAACP Image Awards, and an honorary Doctorate Degree from Bennett College in Greensboro, NC. Most recently, Wilkes has become a national ambassador for the Susan G. Komen Circle of Promise Campaign and lives by the saying, “To whom much is given, much is required.”
Bob Slade is a Harlem, New York native whose original dream was to become an actor. He attended Queens College where he studied acting, and he was a member of the Negro Ensemble and the Harlem YMCA Theater Group. While partaking in his dream to act, he discovered an interest in radio while he was performing in various off-Broadway shows. He began doing news radio in 1971 at a Long Island radio station, and then he proceeded to a radio station in Upstate New York. It was in 1980 that Bob joined the Kiss family and became the News Director. Bob’s ability to answer almost any question regarding entertainment, sports, music, past events, and current affairs has made him the 98.7 KISS FM historian. His diverse knowledge on Black History and the Women’s movement is simply impressive; he is a man who definitely knows his stuff. Bob has won two Achievement in Radio Awards; one for the Best Night Time Show and the other in 1997 for Soul Beginnings. He also received the 1998 Award for Public Affairs for “Open Line.” Bob was also the recipient of the Peabody Award for “The Rise and Fall of the Vee-Jay” and two Armstrong Awards from Colombia University (one of them was for his documentary on the history of Black music). Other awards he received were CEBA, United Press International, and International Radio Festival of New York. Bob has accomplished a lot in his life and his accolades are endless.
