Flint Mayor Asking Steve Harvey for Apology on Tasteless Joke about "Brown Water"

Radio Facts: rfocus.orgYet another unfortunate incident has taken place with Steve Harvey. This time on the Steve Harvey Morning Show. We’re not sure if he apologized on this morning’s show as we didn’t listen but during a show this week a Flint, MI resident phoned in and in jest gave Harvey a hard time about the Cleveland Cavaliers losing the NBA Championship.
Harvey bullied the caller by doing the unthinkable. Considering the national attention that Flint has gotten over the toxic water crisis mostly affecting the impoverished and many black children, Harvey, initially talked about the “silver water” then he capped the conversation with the caller still on the line AFTER he was warned by the staff, he told the called to “enjoy yo Brown wata.” Twitter exploded after the exchange and the mayor of Flint is asking Harvey for an apology. Ironically, Harvey previously supported the backlash to elected political officials in Flint who knew about the toxic water crisis but diverted allocated funding into other areas but his latest comments have upset many people
Ironically, Harvey previously supported the water backlash for elected political officials in Flint who knew about the toxic water crisis but diverted allocated funding into other areas but his latest comments have upset many people including the Flint mayor who is asking Harvey for an official apology. Did Urban Radio Turn off the Music for the House Vote Result?

rfocus.orgYesterday was a shocking day for many Americans who have come to depend on the Affordable Care Act. Some say the media was at fault for taunting Trump about not doing anything for his first 100 days in office. The vote still has to pass the Senate to become law. As I can’t hear all Black Radio Station s nationwide, were there any Black outlets that stopped the music and talked to the black community about the measure, what it means and how it works? Respond to poll below and feel free to comment.

Jennifer Hudson Signs with Epic Records

Radio Facts: JENNIFER_HUDSON_EPIC_NEWS_TEMPLATE
Jennifer Hudson @epicrecords #epicrecords @jenniferhudson @iamjhud has been signed to an exclusive contract with Epic Records, it was announced today by Epic Chairman and CEO LA Reid, following up Ms. Hudson’s historic showstopping tribute performance of Prince’s “Purple Rain” at the 16th annual BET Awards.
Collaborating as executive producers on Ms. Hudson’s upcoming epic records debut will be LA Reid and Clive Davis, Chief Creative Officer, Sony Music Entertainment.  This will mark the first time that LA Reid and Clive Davis have collaborated in nearly a quarter-century, since they worked together on Whitney Houston’s all-time best-selling The Bodyguard soundtrack album of 1992.  At that time, Mr. Davis was President of Arista Records, and Mr. Reid headed LaFace Records and was a go-to producer with partner Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds.
Jennifer Hudson is the defining voice of this generation,” said Mr. Reid.  “Her award-winning presence on records, in film, and on stage establishes her as one of the premiere artists to emerge in this century.  I’m enjoying collaborating with my friend and mentor Clive Davis on Jennifer’s first Epic album and excited for her fans to hear what we’re up to…all will be revealed soon!”
“I signed Jennifer in 2007 believing her to be the strongest candidate as the next generation’s Aretha Franklinand Whitney Houston,” said Mr. Davis. “She has become that, as LA and I excitingly reunite to capture Jennifer at her all time best.”
“I couldn’t be more excited to embark on this new chapter with two of the most prolific musical legends of this generation,” said Ms. Hudson. “There is no doubt that this is just the beginning of a very special collaboration and I know that the result will be something unforgettable. I am looking forward to the creative process and sharing new music very soon!”
Multi-platinum global superstar Jennifer Hudson, whose tribute at the 54th annual Grammy Awards® in 2012 toWhitney Houston (the day after her death) was an iconic, heartbreaking, musical event, gave the BET Awards ceremony its climactic moment with “Purple Rain,” singing in front of an orchestra led by Stevie Wonder on keyboards and Tori Kelly.  Adding to the occasion, Ms. Hudson was wearing the same memorable white hooded tunic that Prince wore the last time he was at the awards spectacular.  See the performance HERE:https://www.bet.com/video/betawards/2016/performances/stevie-wonder-tori-kelly-jennifer-hudson-prince-tribute.html.

Luke Harrison, Known as "Lucius" in the World of Electronic Music, Has Produced a Highly Innovative Album Titled "Cinema Sonics Ambient Works" Available on Demand

Luke Harrison, Known as Oxforshire, United Kingdom, December 12, 2012 –(PR.com)– It’s been 3 years since the magic of Luke Harrison AKA Lucius released, The Downbeat Mysteries mastered by Pink Floyds grammy award winning engineer, so there is a justified sense of expectation on what Luke Harrison has in store for us this time around.

www.tunecore.com/music/lucius

Techfist commented …”Cinema Sonics Ambient Works format is rhythmic emotive, takes the audience on a full audio spectrum experience that is atmospheric, deep, sinister, dark, euphoric, spacey, cerebral, nostalgic and downright artistic in nature and delivery.”

James Bond commented … “Using the extensive experience in themed epic sound projects, Lucius draws together a diverse, interesting and often surprising collection of moods and sounds. Lucius has been long time pioneer of brave new productions not aimed at the pop culture but those seeking repertoire that notably takes you away into your own thoughts and memories and sometimes off to other realms and experiences.”

Al D commented … “The whole mix is haunting, beautiful, subtle and at times shamanic. There is a real emotive experience as the album builds up to the intense moments of bliss and then drifts away into serene interludes and lingers for a moment in tense darkness. As the album progresses you can hear first hand what influences come through and have inspired the Lucius sound, KLF, Orb, Orbital, DJ Shadow, Cold Cut, Kruder Dorfmeister, Cinematic Orchestra, Air, DJ Food, David Holmes to name a few.”

elemental.tm commented …”All tracks are weaved together with intricate detail, Lucius programming and mixing is standing out, and this time I am informed the entire production was engineered, produced and mastered at Lucius designed and built studio which has been built up over the years to give the best results possible. There is a breadth of music on offer from the album, something that will satisfy a broad spectrum of new interest, and should please the already large following that Lucius has accumulated over the years”

Frank Ski Comes Clean about The state of the Music Industry and Cross Dressing Co Host

Radio Facts: (pictured Miss Sophia, entertainment reporter/co host Frank and Wand a morning show)

I like both Frank and Gyant. I like what both of them are doing. Frank makes some very good points here. I’ve always said if I had ANY interest in programming a Radio Station today, I would INTENTIONALLY hire midgets, hand icapped announcers, a senior citizen, gays and lesbians and an ape to host middays… anyone who could do the job ONLY because I KNOW most programmers (even the gay and bi ones) are on GROUP THINK mode. That means they probably would hire the same people too if they didn’t have to hear the backlash from the rest of the programmers (laugh). I wouldn’t give a flying first fook. One must program for the audience and not for what other motha fookas THINK!

SparkRadio for iPhone offers 10,000 stations |

Radio Facts: Commercial music radio may be an artistic wasteland , but independent-minded stations like Seattle’s KEXP, Silicon Valley’s KFJC, and New Jersey’s WFMU are still great ways to learn about new music. Plus, if you want to hear talk radio, news, or live sports in your car, radio’s still your best choice.

The iPhone and iPod Touch lack a built-in radio tuner, but there are plenty of ways to listen to radio stations on these devices, including podcasts and a multitude of apps that offer near-live streams delivered over the Internet. Tuesday morning, the App Store added another entrant, SparkRadio.

This app lets you search among more than 10,000 stations, with directory information provided by RadioTime, and is location-aware if you want to scan local stations first. You can also choose from dozens of Internet-only stations from providers like Ministry of Sound and RadioIO.

The interface is both simple and comprehensive, showing you exactly what’s playing on each station, and giving you easy ways to add favorites and return to stations you’ve recently been playing. I also liked the full-screen visualizations, which were pleasantly understated and dark–particularly the soundwave representation, which reminded me of the cover of Joy Division’s “Unknown Pleasures.”

Overall a very solid app, SparkRadio costs $5.99.

Why Does Radio Ignore Seasoned Aritists When they Resurface?

Radio Facts: The industry works in cycles. Artists MUST be consistent over the years to allow the audience to grow with them. VERY few artist can mimic SADE, Anita Baker, Maxwell   or even Whitney Houston and take a long break and think the audience will still be her waiting for them. When they usually re-appear they are either dated (trying to do today’s music with yesterday’s image) or they are dated (trying to do the same material 20 years later). Finally they can even be on point, have a great song, look great and even get a good reception but be perceived as too old by today’s music industry stand ards and tight playlists. This is why a show like Monique’s on bet is actually a great concept. You would NEVER see those black artists on any other talk show just like you won’t hear new material from those older artists on today’s radio.

What is the older seasoned artists left to do? Exercise their options. Take it to the UK.   I was talking to a seasoned artist the other day at the gym who said he only tours and releases new material in the UK. He said he makes a ton of money and he’s tired of playing the American radio and music industry game, which doesn’t exist for artists his age. He also pointed out that he could not find record promoters in the US who knew how to market material online (no surprise there, I’ve written about it) but that he has found a ton of them in the UK. Finally he concluded the US is still dated in our music industry concepts and he found it hard to believe that we actually wonder why the industry is dying.

New TV Series Life Unexpected Centers Around Local Morning Show DJ (remember those?)

Radio Facts:

Guest Review from Radio Survivor

Last night I checked out the premiere of a new television series on the CW called Life Unexpected, largely because one of the main characters is a radio dj. Additionally, it’s a teen-centric drama, so right off the bat the show is hitting at my pop cultural sweet spots.

[If you’re planning to watch the show and haven’t caught the first episode yet, then you may want to read this post later, as I reveal plot details below.]

The show opens with a shot of VU meters ticking away as we hear the sounds of a morning talk radio show in Portland , Oregon.

We eventually see the innards of the studio and get to spy on DJs Cate (played by Shiri Appleby of the long-departed teen show Roswell) and Ryan (Dawson Creek‘s Kerr Smith), as they entertain listeners with their banter about relationships and marriage. Interspersed with scenes of the studio are shots of teenage Lux listening to the show on her radio (see”¦teenagers really do still listen to terrestrial radio!) as she gets ready for her day.

We soon learn that nearly 16-year-old Lux is in foster care, and we watch her as she tracks down her birth father. In hopes of becoming an emancipated minor, she asks her newly-found dad Nate for details on her mother. She’s surprised to find out that it’s Cate, the host of her favorite radio show.

In an effort to get in touch with Cate, Nate calls in to the morning show and his call works to reveal the sordid details of his Zima-fueled hookup with dj Cate back in high school. Embarrassed by the on-air revelations, Cate leaves the studio to meet Nate in the Radio Station parking lot where she ends up becoming reunited with her daughter Lux.

The family reunion is not without its drama and after some not-so-unexpected twists, we witness a touching scene that actually reveals the power of radio. Lux tells Cate,

You hear it here: Local radio shows offer listeners something different | Jacksonville.com

Radio Facts: Old-fashioned radio is not dead. The trouble is finding it on the dial. Remember dials? If not, the modern equivalent is knowing when to stop the scan button.
These days, restricted playlists OK’d by suited executives can reduce radio DJs to puppets. Or eliminate them. Great songs are wrung dry by repetition while others are forgotten. And not to dis the genius of Pandora, but when a computer system deduces what you want to hear, the excitement of discovery is diminished.
Many music lovers lament that lazy listening doesn’t turn them on. They’ve tuned out. But a few people in Jacksonville offer extra incentive to tune in: They’re producing original programs, playing music that many people would otherwise never hear. Their shows pepper our airwaves, reinventing old radio conventions. We’re sharing a few we find refreshing.
