“Salute Her Awards” Honors CIAA Commissioner, Jacqie McWilliams and Others

The Café Mocha Show airing Sunday’s on V101.9 announced today Charlotte’s 2017 Salute Her honorees,  CIAA Commissioner, Jacqie McWilliams; WBTV News 3 News Content Specialist, Alexis Mitchell; Founder/CEO of Mielle Organics,  Monique Rodriguez; Commissioner At-Large/Mecklenburg County, Ella Scarborough; Association for Computing Machinery, Kaila Billie; 97.1 -FM Program Director, Shilynne Cole; Certified Nurse Practitioner, Shawanda Spencer; and Grammy Award and American Idol Winner, Fantasia Barrino-Taylor.     This   spiritual afternoon will celebrate these eight outstanding women who exemplify the theme, Redefining What Perseverance Looks Like From The Inside Out.


CNN Correspondent will serve as keynote speaker sharing insights on   issues impacting women and their role as leaders.   The Salute Her: Beauty of Diversity luncheon  will take place at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Charlotte Uptown  Saturday, November 18th from 11am- 2pm.

This marks the seventh year that the trendsetting Café Mocha, nationally syndicated radio show will honor women from around the country during awards ceremonies and networking events that have made stops in Washington, DC, New York City, Chicago and Atlanta.   Past honorees this year include an array of diverse women that are making a difference in their respective communities such as legendary actress Pam Grier, renowned White House journalist and author April Ryan, entrepreneurs extraordinaire Germaine Leftridge contemporary millennial author Joi-Marie McKenzie and Grammy Award winning songstress Stephanie Mills.

With Charlotte as the third stop on the 2017 Salute Her Tour the mission is to highlight a variety of talented women whose stories will inspire others. This year’s theme, Redefining What Perseverance Looks Like from the Inside Out, speaks to the importance of women maintaining their inner spirit to find strength to be the best they can be. Café Mocha creator and executive producer Sheila Eldridge says: “Over the years we have honored more than 300 women. Our honorees demonstrate passion, creativity and drive to barriers in their respective fields, truly redefining what perseverance looks like.”

Sponsors that share Café Mocha’s vision are Toyota USA, committed to green living and improving  the environment, will present the Salute Her Toyota Green Initiative Award to Kaila Billie, an outstanding young women who exemplify the goal of the company’s sustainability campaign. The Toyota Green Initiative promotes sustainability awareness and education in African-American communities across the country.

will present to CIAA Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams a dynamic woman who is turning dreams for HBCU students into real possibilities.  Mielle Organics, Founder/CEO Monique Rodriguez  is a young woman that exemplifies the entrepreneurial spirit of America with the success of her natural hair care line.

The Café Mocha show airs on V101.9, Sunday’s from 7 – 9pm and is hosted by comedienne Loni Love, hip-hop icon YoYo and broadcast veteran Angelique Perrin.  It’s a two-hour show that  features the latest in urban music, compelling hot topics and advice “unabashedly” from a woman’s perspective.

The Salute Her Awards supports the Mocha Cares Foundation, which helps provide services that support foster care, combat homelessness and prevent through mentorship programs.
