Russ Martin fired from Live 105.3 FM

was ranked No. 58 this year among a industry trade magazine’s list of the country’s 100 most important talk show hosts.

Top-rated radio host Russ Martin has been fired from Live 105.3 after the station changed its format to an all-sports station Monday afternoon, a Radio general manager said.

The station will now be called 105.3 FM The Fan, centering primarily on sports , said David Henry, the station’s general manager. Nearly all the radio hosts were retained in the format change, except for the popular Mr. Martin.

Mr. Martin, no stranger to controversy during his seven-year tenure at the station, made headlines in July when he was arrested on misdemeanor charges in connection with an argument with his girlfriend. Those charges are still pending, said Tim Powers, Mr. Martin’s attorney.

Mr. Henry said the decision had nothing to do with Mr. Martin’s legal woes.

“It was more about moving in the direction of sports,” Mr. Henry said.

Mr. Martin had owned the station’s 3 to 7 p.m. slot, but it will now be occupied by midday hosts Ben & Skin, according to a news release. Kevin Scott and former Texas A&M football player Greg Hill will take over the 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. slot, the new release said. [source]
