Nearly A Dozen Homes Deemed Uninhabitable After a Fiery Explosion Rocks Indiana Town, Killing 3

Nearly a dozen homes were deemed uninhabitable after a fiery explosion rocked an Indiana town, killing three. Multiple agencies shifted through rubble and debris on Wednesday in Evansville, Indiana.

Central Dispatch said the first call reporting the massive explosion occurred around 12:58 p.m. The tragedy took place in the North Weinbach Avenue and Bellaire Avenue area.

The explosion caused massive damage with up to 39 homes being damaged. Reports state that four homes around the blast site were ripped to shreds. The blast was so destructive that 11 total homes were deemed uninhabitable.

Vincent Taylor was working on a roof nearby when he heard the explosion. After looking up, he saw debris raining down around him. He rushed over to help.

“Total devastation – it was bad,” Taylor said. “I looked over and saw the guy in the grass and it looked bad, but a lot of people lost everything down here. Their houses are totally gone. It’s bad.”

The blast claimed the lives of three individuals. According to Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office, around 4 p.m., their deaths were confirmed.

To help determine the cause of the blast, officials at the scene said the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) was called in to help assist officers; officials told 44News.

At this time, the official cause of this explosion has not been determined.
