Missy Elliott Releasing EP Entitled ‘Iconology’

Missy Elliott
Atlantic Records

is continuing her winning streak in 2019 with her surprise EP, Iconology, set to be released on August 23.

The artist and producer made the surprise announcement that was dropping “a collection of new songs” to celebrate the amazing year that she’s had. “I am humbled and grateful. THANK YOU for allowing me to smell the roses. You, my fans, and God are the reason I am here and have celebrated every milestone with me! So, I have a SURPRISE for you,” she shared online. “Let’s #ThrowItBack to a time when just felt good and made us want to dance! Sincerely, Dr. Melissa “Missy” Elliott. #Iconology.”

Elliott has released a few songs in the past. However, this will be her first full EP in 14 years. Her last album, The Cookbook, was released in 2005, but she followed that up a year later with the singles compilation Respect M.E. In 2018, she’s put out collaborations with Ariana Grande, Kelly Rowland, Busta Rhymes, and Ciara. Elliott also collaborated with rising star Lizzo on “Tempo” this year.

This big news comes right before Elliott receives the MTV VMAs Video Vanguard Award. Earlier this year, she was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
