She described the gathering as a smashing success. “There were a lot of big names there,” said Russell, a Williamsburg native. “When I walked in, everybody was smiling. It was like a big high school reunion.”DJs from WOWI-FM, 103 Jamz, who attended included Babey Drew and DJ Law. Also in the house were DJ B*Ryte, the turntable mistress for singer Amerie, as well as DJ Big Dose from WKUS-FM, 106.5 Kiss FM. DJ Boz organized of the powwow along with DJ E from The Alley.”In my opinion, we are the reason that music sounds the way it does today is thanks to Pharrell, Danjahand z, Timbaland , and Nottz [all from Hampton Roads] to say the least,” Russell wrote in a message drumming up support for the gathering. “But we also have many other people in the industry doing major things that doesn't get the recognition that it deserves. We definitely need to give hope to the people and to let them know that the people behind the radio do care. We want VA to be the next Atlanta or New York City or Miami.”Now, Russell is working to make the roundtable a regular event..”It's something we're going to do more of,” she said. “We need to keep the network of DJs alive … There's strength in numbers.” [source]
