Michelle Williams Reveals Struggle With Depression
Singer and actress Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child revealed today that within only the last few months, she has emerged from years of suffering from depression. Williams is currently starring in a national tour of the Broadway musical “Fela!”.
Williams said she is breaking her silence about the condition she first encountered 18 years ago in order to encourage others to seek help. “Go see a professional so that they can assess you. It’s OK if you’re going through something. Depression is not OK, but it is OK to go get help.” said Williams.
This month, Destiny’s Child will release their first new recording since 2004 entitled “Nuclear, which Williams also co-wrote. Williams is vague when asked if she and fellow group member Kelly Rowland will join Beyonce on stage at the Super Bowl half time show next month, but is specific about her fourth CD which she is putting finishing touches upon: “I’m hoping this album makes people want to choose life.” said Williams.
Williams said she’s avoided treating her depression with medication, choosing to focus instead on exercise, therapy, and positive thinking.
Williams portrays the role of Sandra in the Broadway production of “Fela!”, and is set for a 16-city tour throughout the United States.
