Alicia Moore, a 24-year-old resident of Orlando, was apprehended by the police following an incident at the Oviedo Mall. It was reported that her children were found inside a car that caught fire while was allegedly shoplifting. As per the arrest report, one of the children sustained first-degree burns as a result of the incident.
According to court records, a woman from Florida, Alicia Moore, is currently facing two felony charges after allegedly leaving her two children in a car that caught fire while was shoplifting. The incident took place at the Oviedo Mall on May 26. Police arrested Moore on charges of aggravated child neglect and arson.
According to the arrest report obtained by NBC News, Moore left her children inside a 2016 Lincoln car around noon that day, while and an unknown male went inside Dillard’s department store and allegedly shoplifted for about an hour. When Moore was leaving the store, noticed that her car was engulfed in flames. She dropped the stolen merchandise and fled the store upon seeing the fire.
The car was completely destroyed by the fire, and one of the children attempted to escape but was ultimately rescued by bystanders. Both children were rud to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital. One of the children suffered several first-degree burns on their face and ears, as mentioned in the arrest report. The ages of the children are unknown.
During the police interview, Moore provided only her biographical information and requested an attorney. She was arrested by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office on an unrelated outstanding warrant and was charged with aggravated child neglect and arson related to the May 26 incident while in custody on the same day. Additionally, faces charges of petty theft and assault and battery on a person over 65 years old in Sumter County, located about 55 miles west of Orlando, as per the jail record.
The arrest report states that while the cause of the fire is unknown, Moore’s neglect contributed to the injuries sustained by the children, and the fire occurred during the commission of a felony by Moore, leading to the charges is now facing.
Moore’s bond has been set at $20,000, and her arraignment is scheduled for June 27, according to court records. She pleaded not guilty on Friday, and her court-appointed attorney could not be immediately reached for comment. The potential prison time could face if convicted is not immediately clear.
