Florida Clergy Leaders Focused on Getting Souls to the Polls

b4s_earlyvote102912_8colWith midterm elections less than 15 days away, people of faith will not be silenced when it comes to encouraging voters and acknowledging the struggles of racial, social and economic injustice that impact their congregations. As a part of statewide GOTV efforts being led by faith leaders this weekend, Faith in Florida clergy leaders will participate in the “Praise in the Park & Souls to the Polls” gospel concert and rally from 2-6 PM at Hungerford Academy in Eatonville,America’s first incorporated black town. Additional activities are scheduled in Tallahassee, Cutler Bay, Belle Glades,Lauderhill, and Daytona Beach (for full details of events: Contact Kawana Lloyd, 240-472/860 (cell), [email protected]).More than 20 congregations signed up to participate in statewide events demonstrating the Florida faith community’s determination to transforming our communities struggling with racial and economic justice issues. In Eatonville, more than 5,000 are expected to participate in “Praise in the Park & Souls to the Polls” event, including the Experience Christian Center (Church of God in Christ). Partnering organizations include, the African American Council of Christian Clergy (AACCC), Attorney Greg Francis and The Florida Coalition on Black Civic Participation. Sunday’s event will include powerful messages from Derrick McRae, pastor of Experience Christian Center in between performances by Javis Mays, TJ Bristol, Fanesa Myers, Phaze II, Sheena Livingston, Tim Timmons, local choirs, praise teams plus local pastors and community leaders
