Photo by Charles Smith/University CommunicationsMaxine Greenleaf, executive director for the Department of Communications and Marketing was one of nine Higher-Ed professionals to speak at the Virtual Education Communicators Boot Camp last week. Greenleaf’s presentation was entitled, “Executing a Crisis Communications Plan: A Case Study About the Jackson State University shooting.” On December 4, 2019, JSU went on lockdown after a shooter was reported on campus. Greenleaf’s presentation summarized how she led her team to carefully execute a thoughtful, practiced, crisis communications plan, that shared critical information with the public in a measured and orderly way during the University shooting.“It was a great experience that allowed me to share the crisis communication tips with my peers, that I’ve gathered over the years while serving with numerous teams. Planning and execution is truly a team effort,” says Greenleaf.Amongst the nine speakers, Greenleaf was the only individual from a Historically Black College and University. The other public relations and communications professionals represented Harvard Law School, Columbia Business School, Stanford University, Boston University, University of Notre Dame and Johns Hopkins Medicine.“It was an honor to present as the only HBCU representative.”For more information about the conference, click here.

Tyra Womack, an announcer on WEAA-FM’s weekly “Gospel Grace” radio program was murdered outside her home in Baltimore over a neighbor dispute on Wednesday.Tyra WomackBaltimore police were called around 9pm last night to her home where they found the 57-year-old had been shot. She was pronounced dead shorty after ariving at the hospital.
