Woodstock 1969

This Wednesday, Jan. 9th, Michael Lang (the co-founder and co-producer of the original 1969 Woodstock concert) announced he would produce a 50-year anniversary tribute concert at the Watkins Glen International speedway. Lang is a partner in Woodstock Ventures with original Woodstock producers Joel Rosenman and the family of John Roberts.

The event will have three stages, feature 60 bands, and have art installations, film screenings, and food, beverage, and camping opportunities. He comments:

“The Woodstock 50th Anniversary will be about sharing an experience with great artists and encouraging people to get educated and involved in the social issues impacting everyone on the planet… It’s so inspiring to see young people today channeling their passion into causes they care about. That’s something that’s always been a part of Woodstock’s mission, and it’s a big focus at the 50th festival.”

It will be competing against an already announced event sponsored by the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts at a 15,000 seat amphitheater built on the original Woodstock site. It promises “live performances from prominent and emerging artists spanning multiple genres and decades, and TED-style talks from leading futurists and retro-tech experts.” There will also be a museum with Woodstock exhibitions.
