Honoring Don Cornelius
On February 12, 2012, a special event will take place in Atlanta to honor the legacy of the late Don Cornelius, the creator of Soul Train. Grammy and Soul Train Award nominee Anthony David, alongside promoter J. Carter of Sol Fusion Entertainment, is spearheading a Soul Train Flash Mob at Loca Luna, located at 550-C NE Atlanta, GA 30306, at 3 PM. This initiative aims to celebrate Cornelius’s impact on Black culture and music, reminiscent of the iconic Soul Train lines that once captivated audiences in New York City and Chicago.
The Legacy of Soul Train
Anthony David, who has graced the Soul Train stage multiple times and received a Soul Train Award nomination in 2011, expresses his admiration for Cornelius’s vision. “The Black cities, including Atlanta, benefitted greatly from Don Cornelius’ vision,” he states. “Beyond the fun and great music, Soul Train was a vehicle for African American economics.” David emphasizes the significance of showing appreciation for Cornelius and his contributions, particularly in a city renowned for its vibrant Black businesses.
The Spark of Inspiration
Inspired by the successful flash mobs in Chicago and NYC, David took to social media to inquire why Atlanta had not organized a similar event. The overwhelming response from fans and community members prompted him to take action. “I spoke to Ryan Cameron via Twitter, and he mentioned it on V103, so then I knew that I had to make SURE it happened,” David recalls. His determination to honor Cornelius’s legacy and bring the community together led him to collaborate with J. Carter for this event.
A Perfect Partnership
J. Carter was a natural choice for David, given his experience in organizing successful events. Carter hosts a popular weekly day party at Loca Luna, featuring DJs and live bands that attract thousands. Additionally, he is known for producing the renowned ONE MUSIC FESTIVAL and the nightlife sensation Sol Fusion. Together, David and Carter are set to create a vibrant atmosphere for the Soul Train Flash Mob, with sound provided from the parking lot of Loca Luna extending along Amsterdam.

David and Carter invite all Atlanta residents to join in this celebration of music, dance, and community. “Thousands of Atlanta residents from all walks of life are welcome to come and shake it all the way down the Soul Train line,” they affirm. This event promises to be a joyous tribute to Don Cornelius, encouraging everyone to engage in the spirit of Soul Train that has brought people together for generations.
