Fans were surprised this weekend when Ariana Grande released her new single, “Thank U, Next.” The single discusses her relationships with the late Mac Miller, former fiancé Pete Davidson, ex-boyfriend Big Sean, and her other ex-boyfriend Ricky Alvarez.

The Pop singer released the single half an hour before Davidson appeared on the “Saturday Night Live” stage.

In the song, she thanks her exes for their relationships. She also goes on to talk about the lessons she learned from each failed relationship.

The singer also teases in a later verse that she met someone new, and to find out that it is herself.

Grande dated rapper Big Sean, then split in April 2015 due to conflicting tour schedules for their reason at the time. She was then later linked to Alvarez, her backup dancer in July 2015. The two ended things a year later.

Miller and Grande soon started dating and went public in August 2016. The two parted ways in May 2018, and soon started her relationship with Pete Davidson. Davidson and the pop star had gotten engaged with two months of dating but called off their engagement after four months. The breakup was in the wake of Miller’s death from a suspected overdose in September of this year.

Grande also tweeted that she let Big Sean and Alvarez listen to the single before it was released.

After a brief hiatus that followed the death of Miller, Grande seems to be ready to jump back into music. The new single will be featured on her awaited fifth studio album of the same name.
